Tofu Lesson

One day at lunch, the disciples found that all the dishes were made of tofu. Steamed tofu, boiled tofu, fried tofu, and tofu soup. They asked the chef monk, "Why is there nothing but tofu on the table?"
Chef monk asked in return, "Who was thinking of tofu recently?"
Four or five disciples admitted their thoughts were on tofu yesterday.
Chef monk said, "The Master often warned us: in the monastery, do not let your thoughts wander carelessly. All day long the temple was receiving offerings of tofu!"

 

豆腐的教訓

有一天中午用齋時,
大眾法師覺得很奇怪,
滿桌都是豆腐,蒸煮炒炸樣樣都有。
就問典座師:
為什麼滿桌都是豆腐?
典座師反問:
是誰想吃豆腐?
一問之下,
有四、五位師兄弟,昨天都起過這個念頭。
典座師說:
師父常告誡我們,
在道場,不要亂起心動念,
使得大寮一整天,都是收到豆腐。

叢林道場稱廚房為「大寮」
負責大寮、掌廚的執事稱為「典座」。
