目犍連尊者

佛陀弟子眾中，神通第一。斷盡煩惱，體證道果，神通變化，自在無礙。曾為救母出離餓鬼道，於七月十五僧自恣日供養十方僧眾，遂為盂蘭盆法會由來。

Moggallana

Moggallana was foremost in supernatural powers among the Buddha′s disciples. Having eradicated all defilements and attained the fruit of arhatship, he possessed supernatural abilities, able to transform freely without obstruction. By making offerings to monks on Pravarana Day (15th of July), Moggallana rescued his mother from the realm of hungry ghosts, hence the origin of the Ullambana Ceremony.
